Alex is renowned for his distinctive black-and-white murals, using stark contrasts and intricate linework to create depth and texture and exploring emotions and vulnerability through his characters. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI travelled to the dam and first shot it in spring 2022, giving Alex a 100x70cm print on which he painted. I suggested painting Sizewell A nuclear power station in Suffolk - the vast brutalist building seemed ripe for reinterpretation. The site itself is in a restricted zone, patrolled by armed police so painting it for real is obviously impossible, but you can walk along the beach just outside the heavily fortified perimeter. I rephotographed Skirl’s painted photograph on a balmy summer’s evening and thought the photoshoot was over when I saw a patrol car coming past. This is one of the strangest places I’ve ever shot - the cooling towers of Willington, a coal-fired power station in the UK, disused since the late 1990s. The five towers reach 300 feet\/90m into the sky, and it’s hard to comprehend how big they are until you’re standing at the foot of them. I shot with a remote transmitter so I could sneak into the photograph to give a sense of scale. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ql-align-justify\"\u003eMost of the locations I have photographed are physically in the public domain, and indeed dominate their surroundings through their huge scale, but have restricted access. They are thus imposed on the people living nearby - it is impossible not to see them - but it is impossible to engage with them, use them, or sometimes even approach them. They are often part of the energy infrastructure - arguably the biggest issue of our time - and as such tend to be the subject of controversy. She is renowned for her expansive, outdoor murals that transform spaces into vibrant works of art. They explode with vivid kaleidoscopic colours, seamlessly blended with gradients and transparent overlays. She was the perfect artist to paint the gigantic 225 meter \/ 740 feet Luzzone dam in Ticino, Switzerland. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI photographed the dam in spring 2022, and gave MadC a 100x70cm print, where she brought her world of colour to this huge grey wall.
